ROOTED Series: Sorrow & Loss
Monday – Jesus Understands Our Sorrow
Scripture: Matthew 26:37–38
Reflection:
Jesus did not hide His sorrow. In the garden, He openly admitted that His soul was overwhelmed to the point of death. This matters because it shows us that sorrow is not a failure of faith—it is part of being human in a broken world. If Jesus, the Son of God, experienced deep grief, then we should never feel ashamed for ours. Today, begin the week by remembering this truth: Jesus understands.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for understanding my sorrow. Help me believe that You truly see and know the weight I carry.
Tuesday – There Is a Season for Grief
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1–4
Reflection:
We often try to rush past seasons of grief, but Scripture tells us that mourning has its rightful place in life. There is a time to weep and a time to mourn—and ignoring that season doesn’t make it disappear. Being spiritually mature doesn’t mean avoiding grief; it means walking with God through it. Ask yourself today where you may be resisting the season you’re in.
Prayer:
Lord, help me accept the season I’m in and walk with You faithfully through it, even when it’s painful.
Wednesday – Bring Your Sorrow to the Father
Scripture: Psalm 62:8
Reflection:
God does not ask us to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. He invites us to pour out our hearts—honestly, fully, and without pretending. Denial and avoidance only deepen the wound, but honesty brings healing. Today is an opportunity to stop holding back and begin opening your heart to God in prayer.
Prayer:
Father, I pour out my heart before You today. Help me stop avoiding what hurts and trust You as my refuge.
Thursday – Sorrow Can Draw You Near to God
Scripture: Matthew 26:39
Reflection:
In His deepest sorrow, Jesus drew closer to the Father. He prayed honestly, surrendered fully, and trusted God’s will. Sorrow didn’t push Him away—it positioned Him for intimacy with God. Our pain can do the same if we let it lead us to prayer instead of isolation.
Prayer:
God, use my sorrow to draw me closer to You. Teach me to trust You even when I don’t understand.
Friday – Grace for the Grieving
Scripture: Hebrews 4:15–16
Reflection:
Jesus is not distant from your pain—He sympathizes with it. Because of that, we are invited to approach God’s throne with confidence, knowing we will find mercy and grace in our time of need. As the week ends, remember this truth: you are never alone in your grief, and help is always available in God’s presence.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for Your mercy and grace. I come to You today trusting that You are near and willing to help.
